Clothes in dreams are symbolic of two things – the way we would like the world to see us(our preferred image) and our fears about how the world actually sees us.
Clothes represent your attitude towards the subject matter of the dream, as we dress to suit our mood or to suit the role we feel obliged to play (e.g. career). In the dream context, we are free to wear anything we want or to even wear nothing. How we dress, particularly the colors worn, can be very revealing.
If you are wearing a school uniform or standard business attire in your dream, you may be feeling as if you are misunderstood or unheard. Nobody listens to your input, or else you do not contribute as much as you would like to. A uniform signifies that you are feeling like part of the pack, somebody who blends in with the crowd. Try to be more open and expressive in your daily life. Sit down with your boss and ask what you are doing well and what things you could try to work on. Tell a loved one something that is bothering you. Make yourself heard.
Old fashioned clothing indicates you have adopted an old fashioned attitude towards the subject matter of the dream. This is most likely handed down to you by one or both parents.
If you are wearing formal clothes in your dream, you are afraid that others see you as cold and rigid. Your subconscious is using these clothes to tell you that people around you may sometimes fear you rather than respect you. Do something nice for someone you normally would not recognize. Make someone feel loved or recognized for his or her achievements. You will feel better about yourself, and others will begin to look up to you for the right reasons.
Being given hand me downs belonging to your father would be clearly showing you have adopted your fathers attitude.
Poor clothes will obvious then link to our fears about how others see us in a bad way.
If you find yourself dressed as a specific career choice (clown outfit, nurse uniform, janitorial clothes, etc.), your dream wants you to think about how that specific job pertains to your life. If, for example, you are in a clown outfit, your subconscious is begging you to become more expressive and to do more fun things. If you are in a nurse’s or doctor’s clothes, you may need to take better care of your health. If you are in a janitor’s uniform, you have either been neglecting your duties, or you have been overly concerned with things around the house.
Being naked in a dream is a very good symbol and shows that you are being asked to be yourself when it comes to the subject matter of the dream.
But clothes also send subtle dream messages out about the signals we are sending out. Think especially about the day before and your image and how you wished to appear. Was that a theme at all.
If you dream that you are dressed inappropriately in any way, your dream is showing you that it is time to stop worrying about your emotions. Your dream self has worn an inappropriate outfit (such as a workout outfit at a wedding), your subconscious is trying to express its true self rather than hiding behind conventions. Sometimes, it is okay to break the rules and stand out a little bit. Try not to worry so much about what other people think of you.
If you are ashamed of your outfit, you might need to change something in your life. You are having trouble communicating your feelings or you are doubtful about a major life change. Address these issues in your life, and see what can be changed so that you can better express your true self.
If you are entirely without clothes, you may be exposing too much information about yourself, or you are lying about something important. If you are attacked by clothes in your dream, you are feeling so many emotions that you are unsure how to deal with them.
